A few days ago I met an actor who has worked with Katrina Kaif.
He casually asked me, “Do you think Katrina will ever be talked about
for her work and not just the link up with Ranbir ?”. That got me
thinking, he had a valid question.
In the
last two years Katrina (mind you she hates being called ‘Kat’) has been
in the news for her blow hot-blow cold relationship with a certain
Ranbir Kapoor. The madness reached its peak when a gossip magazine
carried photos of her wearing a bikini having a holiday with RK in
Ibiza. What followed was a bizzare letter that she put out on the front
page of an entertainment supplement asking the media to respect her
privacy and letting them know that she was angry and not quite happy
with those pics.
Fair enough, but that letter in my opinion caused her more damage
than the photo. Whoever ill-advised her to do that didn’t take into
consideration the fact that unlike her rival contemporary Deepika Padukone,
Katrina hasn’t quite been the media darling. She isn’t the sorts to
mingle with journalists, or send them regular SMS’s! Well, she does
reply back to most of the texts you send her, if she doesn’t you have to
understand that’s a subject she’s not willing to discuss!
So let me give you 5 reasons why Katrina is still in the reckoning for the number 1 actress and will still be relevant in 2015!
Immense Likeability
No, I am not talking about her annoying Barbie doll stereotype that
she’s let the media create. She’s anything but a Barbie doll in real
life! Katrina is immensely likeable off camera as well. She has a sense
of humor that she’s willing to share only if she knows you won’t judge
her, she loves to talk about food and travel, so if you ever want to
chat her up, you know what to read up! Despite not being in the papers
every alternate day, Katrina is still someone whose name is billed in
the A-list top ranking actresses of the industry.
Super Success Ratio
Go to her IMDB page and you will know what am talking about. Given a
few misses, Katrina has had a very high success ratio. Before the trade
pundits got obsessed with 100 crore films, she was delivering hits with Salman
(Partner, Ek Tha Tiger), Akshay (Namastey London, Welcome, Singh is
Kinng) and Hrithik (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bang Bang). Not to forget
that she is also part of Dhoom 3 that has set record of being the
biggest hit of all time.
Repeat Value
It’s not just actors who recommend her (Salman, Akshay, Hrithik) but
producer-directors too are excited to repeat her in their film. Last
week I heard from a reliable source that Aditya Chopra is keen on
casting her in one of his forthcoming productions. Despite the not so
friendly reviews in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Adi cast her in his magnum opus
Dhoom:3 giving her the biggest hit of her career. Actors too have
recommended her in the past. I remember, Akshay praising her during the
time they delivered back to back hits and saying how he saw parts of
himself in the way she approached work.
Extremely Hardworking
Katrina Kaif is easily one of the most hard-working actresses in the
industry. Success didn’t come easy to her. From being a one hit wonder,
to having a Rs 500 cr film in her kitty, she had to do more than just
look pretty on screen. I remember how she was on a Broccoli and soup
diet days before she had to shoot for Chikni Chameli with Ganesh Acharya
for Agneepath. She was doing her pilate classes, following her diet,
swimming when she could, and giving her all to make sure she looked
super hot in the song! Chikni Chameli and Sheela are monster hits that
will always be on her resume, but the hard work behind the camera needs
to be applauded.
Compatibility Factor
Not ever actress can manage to look good with Ranbir,
Akshay, Salman and Hrithik. Katrina has the ability to pair up with
different actors and look good. There is no awkwardness between her and
the co-star. She was immensely likeable in Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani as
much as people loved her pairing with Salman in Ek Tha Tiger. When you
have an actress who manages to look good on screen with most of the top
leading actors, she instantly becomes everyones favourite.
So with 2015 around the corner, Katrina has three films Fitoor
directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Phantom by Kabir Khan and Jagga Jasoos with
Anurag Basu. Despite not having any big budget extravaganza to her
name, Katrina will still be very much relevant in 2015 and the years to
follow!
