katrina Kaif to Ajay Devgn step out of their comfort zone

It could ensure a stardom high if served in right doses. It could also exhaust a star’s popularity if overdone to death. Bollywood, where stardom is a slave to image, has forever seen its biggest names step outside their comfort zone to give tested image a spin. The tweak is always aimed at surprising fans with something new, but at the same time it has to be administered in a way it stays in sync with what the particular star’s image primarily defines.
Ajay Devgn’s upcoming Action Jackson is an instance.
The actor known for his intense, often hardhitting, roles was never known to be much of a dancer, which is what he sets out to dispel in the Prabhu Dheva film. Playing the rugged machoman as always, Ajay adds a funky twist to that image donning the dancing shows for the breakdance-style retro groove, Gangster baby, and the bhangra, Punjabi mast. Katrina Kaif is quietly working at a non-glamorous avatar in Abhishek Kapoor’s modestly-budgeted Fitoor. For a change, the thrust for the superstar actress is not glamour or a blockbuster dance, but getting into the skin of an authentic character. Sonakshi Sinha takes to action in A.R. Murugadoss’ next, to get over her identity as a traditional Bollywood beauty, just as Ali Zafar hit kickbutt mode recently in Kill/Dil to move away from his loverboy image. Bollywood history is loaded with examples of image becoming too powerful for a star to handle, the most evident one being the late Rajesh Khanna. In an era when film-makers are increasingly struggling to add a dash of the real, stepping out of the image trap would seem a natural thing to do.
SONAKSHI SINHA Sona will be seen playing an all-out action heroine. Action perhaps is the most convenient way out for Bollywood heroines looking to escape the nice girl image trap. Sonakshi, ever the traditional Bollywood beauty, is these days readying for strenuous martial arts classes and also slimming up to fit the bill as an action heroine in Ghajini maker’s next.
KATRINA KAIF Kat steps out of the sizzling diva zone to try a realistic crossover film. Fitoor is a Bollywood reimagination of Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations, and it sees Katrina play a character based on Estella opposite Aditya Roy Kapoor’s Pip. The role gives her a few shades of grey, unlike anything that Bollywood Barbie Katrina has tried before. Director Abhishek Kapoor has interpreted the Dickensian drama in modern-day Kashmir, using the state’s pristine beauty as well as simmering political angst.
KARAN JOHAR The film-maker tries acting, as villain in Anurag Kashyap’s next. Call KJo Bollywood’s multipurpose celeb, but the film-maker, after hosting a popular chat show and styling SRK’s costume, is only too thrilled to give acting a go. He is poised to play a sinister man in Anurag Kashyap’s period drama.
AJAY DEVGN The actor tries proving his dancing skills in his new release. Known for intense or action roles, the versatile actor has also proved himself with comedy. Bollywood dance, though, is a different ball game, so what better deal than a Prabhu Dheva film to get into the groove. Ajay has two highlight dances in the film — the breakdance- style retro number Gangster baby and the bhangra Punjabi mast.
