Katrina Kaif new endorsement creates controversy and potential backlash

Katrina Kaif is rumoured to have agreed to endorse a skin brightening product and if that is correct it could become a public relations blunder that would result in a public backlash and open the door even wider for rising star actress Shraddha Kapoor. 

 

 

The 2009 Filmfare Award Best Actress nominee had made a public promise during the release of her 2013 film "Dhoom" that she would never endorse a skin brightening cream (Mid-Day - February 15).

 

Yet it is alleged that in some of her recent advertisements the term 'whitening' has been used. Such a public relations mistake can become a disaster because some of her fans might just do one of two things that many could not have imagined in 2014: some of her fans might decided not to support some of her upcoming projects or just as painful, might decide to follow another actress such as Sharaddha Kapoor who looks as if she is providing competition for the fiancee/girlfriend of Ranbir Kapoor.

 

 

The latter possibility is one that has some entertainment observers thinking that pushed Katrina Kaif into making the ill-fated decision to endorse the skin-brightening cream. 

 

Shareeda Kapoor has become part of the Veet hair remover campaign and several entertainment publications such as Masala were noting how she might be replacing Katrina Kaif as the face of the brand (Masala - February 15). The speculation became so prominent that Veet released a statement confirming that Katrina Kaif is still the face of the company and that the younger actress is an 'addition' to the campaign but not a replacement. 

 

Some entertainment observers think that Katrina Kaif may have panicked at the possibility of losing the endorsement and in taking the skin brightening endorsement made her public relations mistake. 

 

Katrina Kaif is attractive and talented but that does not mean she is impervious to pressure and while she may not admit it publicly this is one time in which the "Dhoom" actress allowed the presence and rumours of her competition influence her into making a questionable decision which if she is not careful will turn into a public relations nightmare.
